Does HubSpot support sequential, ordered approval chains?
Yes, but only through advanced approvals, and advanced approvals require a Revenue Hub Enterprise subscription.
HubSpot lists "Require approval from one party, then a second party" as an advanced-only scenario; standard approvals have no notion of order at all.
How deep the chain goes
HubSpot: "You can add up to five sequences, and ten approvers per sequence." Its own example runs a sales manager first, a sales director second and a legal representative third.
A later step is not asked until the earlier one completes, which is the behaviour teams usually mean when they say "chain" rather than "list".
What standard approvals give instead
One approver list and a single choice between "All approvers required" and "At least one approver required". Both are unordered.
With all-of selected, HubSpot notes that an absent approver stops the quote: it cannot proceed without them. That is the failure mode ordering is usually introduced to manage.
The ordering is the gated part, not the headcount
Ten approvers on one unordered list is a standard approval and runs on Revenue Hub Professional. Two approvers who must act in sequence is an advanced approval and needs Enterprise.
If your policy is "manager, then finance signs off on the tax line", the word doing the work in that sentence is "then".
Quotations are HubSpot’s own wording, copied without alteration. HubSpot is a trademark of HubSpot, Inc. QuoteRelay is not affiliated with HubSpot. Plan names, prices and feature gates change: the date above is when these were read, not a promise about today.
It routes HubSpot quote approvals by rules you write, and sends the approver a signed single-use link. The approver has no HubSpot login and no seat. One rule stays free for good, with unlimited approvers on it.
If you are already on Revenue Hub Professional with a Revenue Seat, HubSpot’s own approvals cost you nothing further, and you should use those instead.
